Branding

Books, brand identities and presentations for architects, structures, projects and people connected to creation, art and culture, but also to scuba diving, the ocean and drums — my other passions — that’s what Dawa creates.
Dawa’s not a studio; Dawa’s me, Christophe Lorvo, a Creative and Art Director, originaly educated in Applied Art and Art History in France. With battle scars to show from working three decades as Graphic Designer, Art Director, Copywriter and Creative Director in some of the most competitive environments. On agency and client side. In Europe and Asia-Pacific.
You wouldn’t bet on my Frenchness when looking at what’s in my plate — I am a cheese and wine free specimen. But my accent gives me away.
This website presents a selection of work that reflects my taste for beautiful books and thoughtful layouts, for (im)pertinent ideas that challenge conventions while retaining a strong attachment to certain graphic traditions. It also highlights my approach to structuring content and developing brand narratives.

04 — 12 PROJECTS 12 CHALLENGES
Book

Industry:
Bamboo Architecture
Client: Asali Bali
Location: Bali
250 mm x 300 mm
240+ pages
(In progress)
12 Projects, 12 Challenges presents contemporary bamboo architecture like no other book. There are few books devoted to this field. Existing resources consist of a handful of serious technical publications, visually driven books and monographs by individual architects. This context opened the door to the design of a reference book that would be genuinely different: what was missing from this editorial landscape was a publication bringing together detailed international case studies in which engineering is given a prominent place.
Based on this observation, the discussions Dawa had with Asali Bali provided the elements on which to build a distinctive concept and design a book that would have educational value for the curious, students, architects and decision-makers looking for new ecological or aesthetic solutions.
12 Projects, 12 Challenges is a thematic monograph that takes bamboo beyond considerations that are purely aesthetic — bamboo is beautiful — ecological — current events, politics and the media seem to have pushed architects to take firm positions on the subject — and functional — bamboo can be used to build houses, luxury resorts, administrative buildings and more. Without ever overselling bamboo, the book takes the form of a selection of case studies that demonstrate all the possibilities of a material that remains poorly understood.
This approach allows Asali to achieve several things through compelling stories:  Create a beautiful gift book, Present the studio, Highlight its engineering, Highlight its know-how, Contribute to a better understanding of bamboo as an alternative to concrete and steel, Educate and share knowledge, Spark interest in countries that are not yet very open to the bamboo alternative
The selected projects provide answers to technical questions that different audiences may ask, whether out of interest or curiosity: What are the maximum dimensions possible for a bamboo structure? Can you build with bamboo in a country where there is no bamboo? Is bamboo viable in an urban environment? And so on. An approach that goes beyond the question of “what can you build in bamboo?” — houses, restaurants, luxury hotels and so on.
The project is still in progress. Alongside the concept, editorial direction, art direction and design of the entire book, Dawa has also been involved in rewriting the texts.
